Chiharu Kurasawa (b. 1949) is an established contemporary visual artist based in Japan. A graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Art, he has had both solo and group exhibitions beginning in 1975 in Japan as well as in Italy, where he spent some time studying. Kurasawa’s medium of choice is Urushi, the Japanese technique of using enamel, traditionally on boxes and hard objects. In this work, layers of silver over a matte green background give a unique dimensionality, which is furthered with splatters of reds and yellows. The overall reflective effect is furthered by the framing format: a black shadow box in which the print is floating. A very compelling work.

Please note this item has not been inspected outside of its original frame. Includes artist’s statement and exhibition history, affixed to the back of the frame.
