First published in 1937, Of Mice and Men narrates the experiences of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in California in search of work during the Great Depression in the United States. It is essentially a prequel to The Grapes of Wrath and features many of the same details Steinbeck noted when he himself worked alongside migrant farm workers as a teenager in the 1910s. Of Mice and Men has frequently been criticized for instances of offensive and racist language, which has resulted in it being dropped from many school curriculums. Nevertheless, Steinbeck brilliantly illustrates the world of the sharecropper and common worker, as they toil in the fertile valleys of California and the Monterey bay area.
A nice first book club edition, in which it does not contain the errata seen in true first editions. We have provided a facsimile copy of the first edition dust jacket, with Mylar cover.
