Hugh Kepets is an artist intrigued by fragmented views of reality. His work concentrates on subjects like architecture and still life, often rendering the object of his attention into highly-graphic works. In the 1970’s Kepets worked on a series of works such as his “Sixth Avenue” series, where we are presented with his precise and patterned close-ups and sharply cropped compositions. Complicated and engaging, his works transform familiar objects into highly evocative abstractions. Kepets has been represented in national and international juried and invitational shows as well as four one-man shows in New York and others in Dallas, Pittsburgh, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago and Philadelphia. His work is in major corporate, numerous private and many public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Library of Congress, Cleveland Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and Harvard and Yale University Museums.
