A memoir by the author (who’s real name is Karen Blixen) of her life in Colonial Kenya (then known as British East Africa), Out of Africa captures the final decades of British rule and the complicated relationship of landowners such as herself and the Africans who must accept her rule over them. Blixen explores the character of the local people and how colonialism simultaneously protects and infantilizes the people it exploits.

Unlike many, however, Blixen went to extraordinary lengths to protect the tribes who lived on her land and much later, after she left, she dreams of when “I had a farm in Africa.”

A clean first edition copy, the frontispiece and title pages show traces of aging and faint stains. Otherwise all other pages are clean and unblemished. This edition features a facsimile dust jacket of the original. Covered in protective Mylar.
