Underworld, Kelly Klein, with an introduction by Anne Rice.
Alfred A. Knopf, 1995.
First Edition.
Condition: Excellent
Kelly Klein was first known as the wife of designer Calvin Klein, but her work as a photographer has managed to erase that fact, and rightly so.
When Underworld was published in 1995 it caused nearly as much a scandal as Madonna’s Sex book. It is a compendium of all manner of titillating photos from the 20th century, from S&M to bondage, but also many which are sublime portraits of the naked body at rest; all on full display in beautiful black and white.
Klein is no slouch when it comes to favorite photographers. She has included the works from the likes of Lartigue, Cunningham, Meisel, Rheims, Newton, Markus, von Unwerth, Kertész, Dahl-Wolfe, and Brassaï.
