While certainly not Fitzgerald’s greatest novel, it cemented his stature as being part of the new generation of young writers as America launched headlong into the decadence of the early 1920s. Tender is the Night captures the effect of war on youth and the aimlessness which came to characterize a generation of writers and artists later known as the “lost generation.”
