There is little new that can be said about this infamous 1992 book that hasn’t been said before: it’s inflammatory, at times depraved, silly, narcissistic, and incendiary; however it is a book that changed America and forced upon the world a dialogue about sexual fantasy, unconventional sex acts, and societal taboos. Madonna is never if not calculated in her creative efforts and along with photographer Steven Meisel and Fabien Baron, she set out to design the most erotic and shocking art book possible, with every conceivable kind of pornographic theatrics and smutty scenario (We think SMUT would have been a more scintillating title than SEX.). It all looks pretty tame now, but consider that in 1992 we were only on the outer fringes of the most devastating period of the AIDS epidemic. Gay rights were being challenged in the Supreme Court and abortion rights were being threatened with statutes to render it illegal. You may argue that Sex is not art, but what most can agree on is that it is a highly-sophisticated piece of marketing designed to look like art. Supporting Madge in her kinky endeavors is actress Isabella Rossellini, rappers Big Daddy Kane and Vanilla Ice, model Naomi Campbell, gay porn star Joey Stefano, actor Udo Kier, and socialite Tatiana von Fürstenberg. Because of its complex use of color and paper stock, it took eight months to develop the production process and fifteen days to print the book.

In excellent condition, featuring original spiral binding and steel covers. Includes original Mylar casing with retail pricing on back ($49.95). Note this vintage copy is missing the CD that was included with every copy.
