LaChapelle Land, photographs by David LaChapelle. Simon and Schuster Editions, 1996. First Edition. Numbered.
Condition: Excellent; encased in its original box, which is partly torn but intact on one side.
David LaChapelle was perhaps the most famous celebrity photographer of the latter part of the 20th century, one who created a signature with his luridly colored fantasies featuring the world’s most celebrated pop stars.
For a time, one could not escape seeing his outrageously detailed and candy-colored creations in such magazines as Vanity Fair, Details, Paris Vogue, The Face, The New York Times Magazine, Arena, and in sets designed for MTV videos.
Virtually every major movie star and singer has been photographed by LaChapelle in wildly art directed environments created solely for that one image. The book includes iconic images of such celebrities as Brooke Shields, Jason Priestley, Tupac Shakur, Andy Warhol, Drew Barrymore, and a prepubescent River Phoenix.
Japanese graphic artist Tadanori Yokoo designed the box and the book's covers. A highly collectible volume for the art director, pop star groupie, or lover of colour.
