In 1948, Capote burst upon the literary scene in New York at the age of 19 and instantly became considered a prodigy. His third novel, The Grass Harp tells the story of an orphaned boy and the two elderly ladies who are his only “family,” as they clamber up to a tree house and retreat from the challenges they face down below. They eventually leave their temporary retreat to make amends with each other and other members of society. The novel was inspired by Capote’s memories of his Alabama childhood and the tree house in his cousin Jenny's backyard.) The story is pure Capote with all of the flavours of the rural south.

A fine edition with original just jacket. Jacket features some chipping and missing margins. Otherwise very good. Inside cover has an inscription by former owner from 1951.
