Author and documentary filmmaker Roger Leenhardt (1903-1985) saw the futureof cinema and coined it: La Louvelle Vague. He was instrumental in championing the likes of François Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, and Jacques Demy.
His critical writings about film inspired André Bazin to launch the seminal magazine, Cahiers du Cinéma, in which Leenhardt fequently appeared.
