Les Leenhardts se balladaient sur le toit du Château Fonfroide, c. 1880.
Pierre Trassard, Château Fonfroide, collection privée.
Together, these firebrands and iconoclasts lived in and around the stunning château known as Fonfroide-le-Haut, a looming gothic-revival hotel particulier built in 1871 by family patriarch Claude Heri Leenhardt. For the next 150 years, the domaine would be the center for one of Provence's most powerful families; through two World Wars, Nazi Occupation, and the decline of traditional agriculture.
Today Fonfroide is the home and hallmark of the Fonfrège Brand.
With gratitude to Jean Gartner (1922 – 2014), who, with passion and precision,
researched and documented the genealogy of this remarkable family.
